At the courts request, Walter W. Ballew, III is responsible for coordinating the swearing-in ceremony for applicants who wish to be admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. For all attorneys who wish to be admitted to practice in the United States District Court of the Southern District of Georgia, please email the following information to firstname.lastname@example.org, with "Attorney Admissions" as the email's Subject line:
(i) Attorney's name;
(ii) Georgia's Bar Number;
(iii) Contact information; and
(iv) Email address; and
(v) Attach a copy of your completed Petition.
The applicant will need to complete a form, "Petition for Bar Admission" ("Petition"). The form can be obtained via the internet at www.gasd.uscourts.gov. The applicant will need to have two (2) attorneys who are admitted in the U.S.D.C. Southern District of Georgia to sign the Petition to attest to your good moral character. The Petition must be typed. Please include the attorney's email address on the Petition.
On the day of the ceremony, the applicant should arrive at the district court at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the starting time for the ceremony. The courthouse is located in United States Postal Building on Wright Square, 125 Bull Street, Savannah, Georgia. The ceremony will be held in the First Floor Courtroom. All applicants will be notified by email of the next scheduled ceremony and one (1) courtesy telephone call will be made to applicants who do not RSVP after the noticing email is circulated. It is imperative that all applicants inform Jessica Flanders at (912) 233-9433 or at email@example.com of any changes to his/her contact information in order to ensure all applicants receive the ceremony scheduling notice. If an applicant is unable to attend a scheduled ceremony, please advise Jessica Flanders of the applicant's scheduling conflict and the applicant's name will be moved to the list for the next ceremony.
PLEASE NOTE: Swearing-in ceremonies are conducted on a mass swearing-in basis only. The district court does not conduct individual attorney's needs.
Brunswick Division and Augusta Division periodically conduct swearing-in ceremonies. The procedure for Brunswick and Augusta differ with regard to the submission of the Petitions. Please read each division's requirements carefully.
