United States District Court, Southern District of Georgia Savannah Division's Attorney Admissions
_ At the Court’s request, Walter W. Ballew, III is responsible for coordinating the swearing-in ceremony for applicants who wish to be admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. For all attorneys who wish to be admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, please email the following information to email@example.com, with "Attorney Admissions" as the email's Subject line:
(i) Attorney's name; (ii) Georgia Bar Number; (iii) Contact information; and (iv) Email address.
The applicant will need to complete a form, “Petition for Bar Admission” ("Petition") The form can be obtained via the internet at www.gasd.uscourts.gov. The applicant will need to have two (2) attorneys who are admitted in the U.S.D.C. Southern District of Georgia to sign the Petition to attest to your good moral character. The Petition must be typed.
On the day of the ceremony, the applicant should arrive at the district court at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the starting time for the ceremony. The courthouse is located in the United States Postal Building on Wright Square, 125 Bull Street, Savannah, Georgia. The ceremony will be held in the First Floor Courtroom. You should bring the original completed Petition and a check as payment of your admission fee. The check should be made payable to the Clerk of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. The application fee is $226.00.
It is not necessary for you to have an attorney accompany you for your admission. Walter W. Ballew, III will present all of the properly completed Petitions to the court and move for admission of the applicants.
All applicants will be notified by email of the next scheduled ceremony and one (1) courtesy telephone call will be made to applicants who do not RSVP after the noticing email is circulated. It is imperative that all applicants inform either Toni Smoker or Cindy Barnette at (912) 233-9433 or at firstname.lastname@example.org of any changes to his/her contact information in order to ensure all applicants receive the ceremony scheduling notice. If an applicant is unable to attend a scheduled ceremony, please advise Toni Smoker and/or Cindy Barnette of the applicant's scheduling conflict and the applicant's name will be moved to the list for the next ceremony.
NOTE: Brunswick Division and Augusta Division periodically conduct swearing-in ceremonies. Contact information for the Brunswick Division and Augusta Division are as follows:
Brunswick:Theresa Davis Beaton at (912) 265-6700. Ms. Beaton will notify the attorney when the next Brunswick Division swearing-in ceremony is scheduled. Please do not mail in the Petition.
Augusta: Please mail Petition to Lisa Widener, Courtroom Deputy for the Honorable J. Randal Hall, Federal Justice Center, Attn: Atty Admission, PO. Box 1130, Augusta, Georgia 30903. The attorney will be notified of Augusta's scheduled ceremony by receiving a notice in the mail. Please bring the admission fee the day of the ceremony.
