United States District Court, Southern District of Georgia Savannah Division's Attorney Admissions
_ At the Court’s request, Walter W. Ballew, III is responsible for coordinating the swearing-in ceremony for applicants who wish to be admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. For all attorneys who wish to be admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, please email the following information to firstname.lastname@example.org, with "Attorney Admissions" as the email's Subject line:
(i) Attorney's name; (ii) Georgia Bar Number; (iii) Contact information; and (iv) Email address.
The applicant will need to complete a form, “Petition for Bar Admission” ("Petition"). The form can be obtained via the internet at www.gasd.uscourts.gov. The applicant will need to have two (2) attorneys who are admitted in the U.S.D.C. Southern District of Georgia to sign the Petition to attest to your good moral character. The Petition must be typed. Please include the attorney's email address on the Petition.
On the day of the ceremony, the applicant should arrive at the district court at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the starting time for the ceremony. The courthouse is located in the United States Postal Building on Wright Square, 125 Bull Street, Savannah, Georgia. The ceremony will be held in the First Floor Courtroom. You should bring the original completed Petition and a check as payment of your admission fee. The check should be made payable to the Clerk of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. The application fee is $226.00.
It is not necessary for you to have a sponsoring attorney accompany you for your admission. Walter W. Ballew, III will present all of the properly completed Petitions to the Court and move for admission of the applicants.
All applicants will be notified by email of the next scheduled ceremony and one (1) courtesy telephone call will be made to applicants who do not RSVP after the noticing email is circulated. It is imperative that all applicants inform either Jessica Flanders or Cindy Barnette at (912) 233-9433 or at email@example.com of any changes to his/her contact information in order to ensure all applicants receive the ceremony scheduling notice. If an applicant is unable to attend a scheduled ceremony, please advise Jessica Flanders and/or Cindy Barnette of the applicant's scheduling conflict and the applicant's name will be moved to the list for the next ceremony. PLEASE NOTE: Swearing-in ceremonies are conducted on a mass swearing-in basis only. The district court does not conduct individual ceremonies based on an individual attorney's needs.
Brunswick Division and Augusta Division periodically conduct swearing-in ceremonies. The procedure for Brunswick and Augusta differ with regard to the submission of the Petitions. Please read each divisions' requirements carefully. Contact information for the Brunswick Division and Augusta Division are as follows:
Brunswick:Please contact Kim Kroscavage with Gilbert, Harrell, Summerford & Martin, PC at (912) 265-6700 if you would like to be sworn in through the Brunswick Division. The standard procedure is to call Kim Kroscavage and have your attorney's name placed on the swearing-in list. The district court will periodically schedule the swearing-in ceremonies and notify Ms. Kroscavage of the date it selects. Ms. Kroscavage will notify the attorneys who have placed their names on the swearing-in list by mail. The notice will provide a deadline for attorneys to submit their Petitions. Please make sure to put your attorney's email address on the Petition. Ms. Kroscavage does not accept petitions submitted prior to a swearing-in ceremony being scheduled and noticed.
Augusta: Please mail Petition to Lisa Widener, Courtroom Deputy for the Honorable J. Randal Hall, Federal Justice Center, Attn: Atty Admission, PO. Box 1130, Augusta, Georgia 30903. Once Ms. Widener receives an allotted number of Petitions, she will schedule the swearing-in ceremony for the following month. The attorneys will be notified of Augusta's scheduled ceremony by mail.
